Get Involved
As a non-profit, locally-rooted organization, the Wellfleet Oyster Alliance is made strong by its supporters. Our membership is our muscle but there are a number of ways to get involved: become a member, make a donation, or volunteer. Stay connected with WOA by signing up for our email list.
Membership
WOA currently offers two different membership opportunities.
The Dr. David Belding Membership - $500/annual
Named for one of the founding fathers of Wellfleet’s oyster industry, this level is our biggest commitment and delivers our biggest rewards. A trained shellfish biologist and medical doctor, Belding was appointed by the Massachusetts Commissioners of Fisheries and Game in 1904 to study commercial shellfish operations throughout the state. His work was transcendent both in its scientific inquiry into the life of an oyster as well its usefulness for resource protection and aquaculture efforts within our harbor. Wellfleet oysters as we know and love them today would not be possible were it not for Dr. David Belding.
Member Benefits include:
Two guaranteed tickets to each day of OysterFest ($132 value)
Two tickets to WOA’s Art and Oyster Crawl ($176 value)
Two Shellfish Farm Tour tickets ($66 value)
Early Bird access to popular/sold-out OysterFest events including Learn to Shuck
Access to Belding Society member-only events
The Olympic Gold Membership - $150/annual
There is power in oysters. And, as legend has it, there is Olympic gold medal power in Wellfleet oysters. This level of membership honors a special bit of Wellfleet lore; the story of Paul Suggs and friends' fateful trip to the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. An artist and oysterman, Suggs traveled to the Games with a load of Wellfleets fresh from the flats. He and his fellow ‘Fleetians quickly got a following selling their salty superfood on the half-shell to fans and athletes alike. For those in the know, it is no small coincidence that members of the U.S. Men’s Hockey Team were regularly slurping our local oysters in route to one of the Olympic’s most storied underdog stories, “The Miracle on Ice”.
Member Benefits include:
Volunteer with WOA
It cannot be overstated how important volunteers are to everything that WOA does. Whether it’s OysterFest, our weekly summer Makers Market, an Art & Oyster Crawl, Farm Tours, or one of our many educational offerings, nothing we do happens without the help of our friends and neighbors. Volunteers of WOA’s OysterFest get into the ‘Fest for free!
We would love to have you as part of the Alliance. You can always email us at volunteers@wellfleetoa.org.
